If you want to use Apple WWAN (wireless wide area network) native support, your computer must have Mac OS X 10.5.6 or higher installed. You should also have a valid activated SIM card.
Sierra Wireless provides a switch driver that switches the Compass 885 (Mercury) USB modem from USB mass storage device mode to Modem mode. After you install the switch driver, you can use the Apple native WWAN application to connect to the Internet.
Note: Do not insert the USB modem into your computer until you install the software.
1. Download the driver for WWAN native support for Mac OS X 10.5.6 and 10.6.x from here:

The downloaded files appear as shown. Double click Installer.app to run the installation.
2. Click Continue (you may need to provide the Admin password for your Mac).
3.When the Installation was successful message appears, click Restart to restart the computer.
4. Insert the USB modem into the computer. After several seconds, the WWAN icon appears as a triangle in the menu bar. When you hover the mouse over the icon, a drop-down menu appears.
5. The message A new network interface has been detected appears, as shown. Click the Network Preferences... button and in the Network window click Apply and close the Network window.
6. Wait for the WWAN icon to begin displaying signal bars, as shown in the following image. Click the WWAN icon and from the drop-down list, select Connect. When the connection is established the icon changes to a blue signal strength icon.
7. To close the session, select Disconnect from the WWAN icon drop-down list.
